Student Employment Time to Hire

The timeline for student hiring tends to depend on the hiring volume, which varies by month. The following is the process for student employment:

Stage 1: The Job Posting

  • JD Creation - Drafting new job description for classification
    • 3 days
  • JD Classification - Job is reviewed and classified
    • 3 days
  • Handshake Posting & Publishing - Gathers details regarding posting, create posting in Handshake, and wait time for SEO to publish
    • Low Volume - 2 days
    • High Volume - 1 week
  • Job Posting & Application Collection - Published posting gathers applicatiosn
    • 2-4 weeks
  • Screening - Hiring Authority reviews applications
    • Low Volume - 2 days
    • High Volume - 1 week
  • Interviews - Schedules interviews with selected candidates, conducts interviews and makes determination on hire(s). Sends selection(s) to HR
    • 1 week

 

Stage 2: Onboarding

  • Onboarding - Creates offer letter, completes new hire documents via Onboarding Solution, schedules Oath and I-9 authorization document review
    • Low Volume - 1 week
    • High Volume - 2 weeks
  • UCPath Transaction - Enters appointment information into UCPath, goes through local approval
    • 1 day
  • UCPath Approval - PCPC Processes appointment transaction and Employee ID is generated
    • Low Volume - 2 days
    • High Volume - 1 week
  • Systems Access - Employee ID sent to IT group for AD creation
    • Low Volume - 1 day
    • High Volume - 3 days

 

For a low volume hire period, allow for 2 weeks before desired start date in the HR processing time. For high volume hire period, allow for 4 weeks.
